Samsung’s own digital assistant, Bixby, can now be fully disabled! Well no… I don’t believe Samsung will do that anytime soon. I use Bixby continuously for certain tasks and uses, I really proved to be helpful. But when it comes to the general opinion, it seems like Bixby is pretty hated. Many apps have been developed that focus on remapping the Bixby button, so that it could be used to launch something else, such as the camera or Google Assistant, but Samsung was quick at launching updates that disable those apps. Eventually, the company succumbed and rolled out an update that allowed users to disable the Bixby button. Even then the button could still be used (by holding it down) to summon Bixby. It seems like this isn’t the case anymore, with the latest Bixby update, Samsung has put an end to that, and now users have the options to disable the button entirely.
Samsung announced Bixby right before its launch of the Galaxy S8, but the digital assistant didn’t become available to users until recently. From the reviews, I have mostly seen online and from what I have heard from friends, I must say that Bixby is the most misunderstood digital assistant out there. Good news to all programmers out there! Samsung just launched a bug bounty program, for those who are able to find “worthy” bugs. The program is aimed at finding bugs in both hardware and software. Continue reading “Samsung’s mobile bug bounty program – Rewards up to $200,000”
With Apple’s recent unveiling of its new phones, we can only be sure of one thing, that these are really exciting times. I spent the better part of yesterday trolling people I know that are iPhone fans and woke up today to more than 10 messages telling me “They are good phones, what are you talking about?!” or something to that effect. Which tells us one thing, that some of my friends don’t get jokes.
I won’t be discussing the phones specifications/hardware/software, but rather focus on some features highlighted in the event. Here are my actual unbiased thoughts (as an Android user) on the new iPhones and those features (no bashing):
As a gamer, having a desktop monitor that has a great resolution and offers high FPS, is important for a great viewing and gaming experience. Last month, Samsung announced launching the world’s largest QLED gaming monitor, the CHG90, at Gamescom 2017. Continue reading “Samsung launches world’s largest QLED gaming monitor at Gamescom”
Among the smartphones launched at the beginning of 2017, the LG G6 was one of my favorites, and now, the company is back again with yet another great device. The LG V30 has just been announced two days ago and this device is an absolute beauty, inside and out. The least to say is that this phone has a headphone jack! The company is probably planning to steal some spotlight with this device, which is most probably going to be difficult to do, due to the Note 8, iPhone 8, Mate 10, and Pixel 2. Q4 of 2017 is just filled with highly anticipated smartphones. Now, let’s have a look at what the phone has to offer.
It’s safe to say that Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 was one of the most, if not the most, anticipated Android phones of 2017 – 2018. We didn’t really have to wait till its unpacked event to know its design and most of its features, as almost everything was leaked over the past month. The unpacked event kicked off yesterday and as usual, Samsung really knows how to put on a good show. But it isn’t about the spectacular show and presentation, it is about the phone. Before I get into it, I must say that I was pretty much looking forward to the Note 8’s release, especially that it’s the new iteration of last years phone, which was a great phone while it lasted. So, let’s have a look at the phone’s specifications and features, and then let’s discuss it all.
Back in 2015, Valve launched the Steam Link, a streaming box that allows users to stream their PC steam games directly to their television. For $50, users would get a device that they plug into the TV’s HDMI port, connect a controller in, setup the internet connection, and start streaming steam games to. At last, the Nokia 8 is here, and it comes with a great specs sheet. Just like other Nokia phones, the Nokia 8 is also manufactured by HMD Global. The new Nokia smartphone is the first actual Nokia Flagship running Android, that comes with an impressive specs sheet. Given that the Galaxy S8+ just won the EISA best smartphone award, let us have a look and compare both phones’ specs sheets.
