Android provides us the freedom to change nearly everything about our phones, especially when it comes to our home screens. We aren’t stuck with a bland grid of icons; we don’t live in our app drawers the way iPhone users do. We can add widgets; we can add search bars and gestures; we can have blank space wherever we want, not just at the bottom of an unfilled page! Bixby has been officially announced!

Today Samsung officially announced their new intelligence interface, Bixby, that will be on all new Samsung devices. The rumors about the launch of Bixby in the upcoming Galaxy S8 surfaced back when Samsung filed for the “Bixby” trademark at the beginning of this year.

In a press release, the company announced this new AI in the S8, as well as provide a bit of description on what this digital assistant can do (press release).  Bixby’s main competitor won’t be Siri or Cortana, but rather Google’s own Google Assistant that has been now made available to most Android devices.

Will Samsung’s Bixby be any different from its failed S Voice? In theory, Bixby is indeed very different, offering more and doing more. But this all can’t be confirmed until the Galaxy S8 is released.
