Galaxy Note 8 – specs and features

It’s safe to say that Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8 was one of the most, if not the most, anticipated Android phones of 2017 – 2018. We didn’t really have to wait till its unpacked event to know its design and most of its features, as almost everything was leaked over the past month. The unpacked event kicked off yesterday and as usual, Samsung really knows how to put on a good show. But it isn’t about the spectacular show and presentation, it is about the phone. Before I get into it, I must say that I was pretty much looking forward to the Note 8’s release, especially that it’s the new iteration of last years phone, which was a great phone while it lasted. So, let’s have a look at the phone’s specifications and features, and then let’s discuss it all.

Huawei is on the rise!

The smartphone industry has been divided between two players (at least that is how many saw it), Samsung and Apple, for many years now. What am I talking about? If you’ve lived in the Middle East, you would have realized that to most people, smartphones mean either a Galaxy or an iPhone. That has been the case for many years now, although the market was filled with phones by LG, HTC, Sony, and others. It was between 2011 and 2013 that Chinese manufacturers started to appear as serious players on the global board (via Statista). Since then companies such as Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi have been slowly gaining global market share, with Huawei announcing last year its plans to overtake Samsung and Apple by 2021 (via WSJ).  Continue reading “Huawei is on the rise!”

Galaxy Tab S3 review: Much better than I expected!

I ordered the Galaxy Tab S3 the moment it became available back in May but couldn’t really get around to writing this review, up until now. Before purchasing the tablet I knew exactly what I was buying, I didn’t really expect much out of this device. It comes with a stunning screen, so it was perfect for my media consumption, and an S-Pen, which really got me excited as I was looking for a stylus for note taking. After using the device for the past 2 months, it is safe to say that the Tab S3 has exceeded my expectations.

Last month, the company announced installing its first commercial cinema LED screen in Korea, at Lotte Cinema World Tower. The display is an HDR (high dynamic range) LED theater display, that offers “true-to-life” audio thanks to the recent acquisition of Harman.  Continue reading “World’s first cinema LED display”

Terminator: rise of the machines – real world Facebook edition!

The machines have made their own language! Well… no, they weren’t actual machines, but rather chatbots. The news has been all over the internet, Facebook AI developing their own language to better communicate with each other. Seems scary doesn’t it? Not really… they are just chatbots (for now), so I guess the most they could do is talk us into extinction.
